Austrian organic wine from Loidesthal, Weinviertel

Deep Loess soils and chalky clay soil are the base for our Grüner Veltliner. With the slopes and the plateaus on our gentle hills we get receive perfect balance between ripeness and acidity for this natural Grüner Veltliner. In the nose you get notes from crushed apples and pears with herbal nuances. On the palate there is a lot of spiciness, structure and a refreshing mineralic acidity. For us this is natural born beauty of Grüner Veltliner.

Ripe and healthy grapes were harvested in the middle of October. After crushing the grapes, they had skin contact for 24 hours to extract flavor & structure from the skins. Followed by gentle pressing, the juice went through fermentation with natural yeasts in big oak casks. After lees contact and maturing for 10 month in the barrel the wine went to bottle without any filtration and fining with just a minimal amount of sulfur.

THE SCHÖDL FAMILY originally built their farm at the end of World War II as a mixed agriculture and wine operation, it was then transformed into a vineyard and winemaking focused operation in the 1980’s by Hubert Schödl, a winemaking professor. Since 2012 the winery has been run by his children Matthias, Leonhard and Viktoria. Nestled between Vienna and the Czech Republic the Weinviertel region is influenced by the Danube and March rivers and a Pannonian climate of hot, dry summers and dry, cold winters. The resulting grapes reach full ripeness and maintain refreshing acidity.
True cool climate wines. The Schödl’s focus on several unique expressions of Grüner Veltliner and St. Laurent. Chardonnay, Weisser Burgunder and Pinot Noir are also grown for the production of world class sparkling wines. In and around the village of Loidesthal the Schödl’s 15 ha of vineyards are all farmed organically.
