This is a new era for Cava, the Spanish sparkling wine made according to the principles of Méthode Traditionnelle, as it comes out of the shadow of other leading sparkling wine styles and begins to cause serious waves around the wine world.
Julià & Navinès, a small, independent winery located on a hillside above Spain’s rocky northeastern coast, is firmly part of this movement. The family has grown vines and made still wines and Cava here since the early 20th century, but it was only in 1985 that they started to sell their wines under the brand name Julià & Navinès.
The Masia (the Catalan word for a type of farmhouse or rural construction) Navinès is located in Font-Rubí, Alt Penedès, Barcelona. Over the horizon one can see an endless landscape of vineyards, olive trees and grains, the three pillars of the Mediterranean diet. It is a very special place where the climatic conditions and the perfect balance of Mediterranean soils combine to create a privileged site, perfect for growing vines.
Julià & Navinès works with these privileged vineyards, using a combination of artisanry, tradition, innovation, gentleness and perseverance, to craft truly exceptional wines and Cavas. The quality and prestige of this small passion project have been recognized and enhanced by the most well-regarded international tastings.
Their white Cava is made with a careful selection of wines from traditional Penedès varieties: Macabeu, Xarel·lo, and Parellada. The rosé Cava is 100% Pinot Noir.
The Julià & Navinès team blend the best of the traditional and the modern, as reflected in their traditional farming methods, small batch vinification, organic-influenced approach and ferociously independent spirit. Handpicked grapes, grown beneath the blazing sunshine and cooled by fresh sea breezes, result in a Cava that is impossible to forget.
To portray their brand and its spirit, they have chosen as their logo the image of the Greek Goddess Eno, who has the power to transform water into wine. It is the icon of the winery and its product range, conveying the importance of wine in the Mediterranean culture.
