Claré is an incredibly deep and savory Rosato with all the structure and character of a much richer wine, yet all the refreshment of a light rosé. Composed of Vermentino nero, Canaiolo, pollera, and *maybe* a little Pinot Grigio from near Cinque Terre and the coast.
The wine is an incredible holiday rosé and something that will have your traditional grandparents and parents freaked out... by their desire for more and more and more!
You arrive at Casteldelpiano by following the main road to a side road to a gravel road that finally leads to the dirt and gravel driveway of Andrea & Sabina’s “Little Castle.” The castle and vineyards are hard against the Taverone river, in the Lunigiana region of northwestern Tuscany, closer by far to the Cinque Terre than to the crowds of tourists in Florence. The carefully tended vineyards run parallel to the river in several long rows. The winery is compact and lined with stainless steel tanks, open-top wooden fermenters, and old barrels. Andrea & Sabina devote most of their attention to hyper-local varieties, making sparkling, rosato, whites with a touch of skin contact, and delicious reds, all from their small, organically-farmed vineyards, which produce only 900 cases per year.
