Vineyard
This 2021 Gamay Noir is sourced from the west
Sta Rita Hills. The quality of wine coming out of
the Sta. Rita Hills truly inspires. We attribute such
quality to the transverse valley that funnels wind
west to east from the Pacific Ocean. While spring
frosts can be problematic, the cool, wet ocean air
promotes freshness in this Gamay Noir. The vines
are grown using organic practices on marine
sedimentary rock with elevated calcium and silica
content. This vineyard in particular has extremely
high levels of chalk and diatomaceous earth. 12.6
% ABV, 230 cases produced
Winemaking
We produce this wine using 100% whole clusters
under complete carbonic conditions. The wine
ferments spontaneously with native yeast and
then ages in neutral oak barrels for 6 months.
Unfined and unfiltered. Small amount of sulfur
added before bottling. Please expect some solids
in the bottle, especially with age.
Tasting Notes
This Gamay shows deep fuchsia in the glass with
an aroma resplendent of the color. Sweet earthy
petrichor on the nose, along with notes of black
currant and red plum. Subtleties of vanilla, baking
spice, and black tea on the tongue. Pairs well with
great company on an afternoon for savoring. We
made this wine thoughtfully to show itself best
with age. Enjoy now or cellar for savoring at its
peak.
