**Vineyard(s): **Farmed by John and Jan Upton, the twenty-five acres under vine at Upton Vineyard are all CCOF certified organic and were planted in the 1960s on the characteristic loam soils.
Just across the main road, planted on seven acres in the 1960s, Randy Dorn continues to dry-farm his head-pruned vines in the CCOF certified-organic style. The climate of the upland Redwood Valley AVA experiences more of a diurnal temperature shift than surrounding appellations due to a gap in the coastal ridge which funnels cool Pacific air currents through to the Valley. This leads to a more gradual ripening of refined and complex fruit which retains acidity nicely through harvest.
**AVA: **Redwood Valley
**Method: **The Dorn Vineyard Grenache and Carignane were picked together, foot-trod and pressed after soaking overnight on the skins. The juice settled for 24 hours in tank, then barreled down for fermentation and 6 months elevage in neutral oak. The Petite Sirah was sourced from Upton Vineyards, foot-trod, and sent direct-to-press. Allowed to settle in the tank for a day, the juice was then racked to a tank for six months in stainless steel before blending with the Grenache & Carignane.
**Our Winemaking Philosophy**
We believe in old world style with fresh appeal starting with exceptionally farmed organic grapes. In the cellar we add nothing to the wine - no added sulphur, commercial yeasts, nada. This style of winemaking is often called Zero Zero today.
