My wine is: the fruit of a dry season, it never rained all summer. Plino is a full-bodied, fragrant, complex wine, supported by a sapidity given by the salt coming from the Ligurian sea 3 kilometers away. It is recommended to open it before tasting.
Tenuta Belvedere dates back to the late 19th century but came into its own when Gianluca Cabrini and his wife Federica began re-cultivating her grandfather’s land in 2013. The vineyards cover approximately 10 hectares on the Oltrepò Pavese hillside in the municipality of Montecalvo, Versiggia. The hills of Oltrepò are strongly influenced by its coastal neighbor Liguria with its cooler sea breezes and the clay-limestone soil of marine origin which allows for natural water drainage. Pinot Noir is the main focus here, along with local Croatina, Bonarda Barbera, and Riesling which Gianluca uses for the production of his pet nat WAI. No pesticides or herbicides are used in the vineyards.
In the cellar, Gianluca works with cement vessels and stainless steel. WAI is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Riesling refermented in bottle, unfiltered, with zero sulfites added. Their Bonarda starts in cement and finishes second fermentation in bottle and has a fresh fizz.
