Notes from the Winery/Importer
Refreshing rosé in a radiant, clear salmon pink with a light, fresh body and a long finish. Delicate aromas of red berries and rose petals. This rosé was made from Zweigelt & Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir grapes were picked quite early in the middle of September to preserve primary fruit and freshness. After whole bunch pressing the juice was slowly fermented with native yeast in stainless steel to get fine primary aromas reminiscent of red berries and roses. The second, more riper part of this wine comes from Zweigelt picked in the beginning of October. After 12 hours skin contact, it was fermented and matured in big oak barrels to maintain strength and volume on the palate. After blending we bottled the wine in the beginning of March. Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Zweigelt Block(s): Around Loidesthal Soil: Löss, Lehm & Sandstone Crop: 5500 kg/ha Alcohol: 12,0% vol. Sugar: 2 g/l Acid: 6,0 g/l Drink: 2022-2024 --- THE SCHÖDL FAMILY originally built their farm at the end of World War II as a mixed agriculture and wine operation, it was then transformed into a vineyard and winemaking focused operation in the 1980’s by Hubert Schödl, a winemaking professor. Since 2012 the winery has been run by his children Matthias, Leonhard and Viktoria. Nestled between Vienna and the Czech Republic the Weinviertel region is influenced by the Danube and March rivers and a Pannonian climate of hot, dry summers and dry, cold winters. The resulting grapes reach full ripeness and maintain refreshing acidity. True cool climate wines. The Schödl’s focus on several unique expressions of Grüner Veltliner and St. Laurent. Chardonnay, Weisser Burgunder and Pinot Noir are also grown for the production of world class sparkling wines. In and around the village of Loidesthal the Schödl’s 15 ha of vineyards are all farmed organically. -Barrel Down Selections
