THE DOMAIN
The land is available on hillsides whose altitude varies from 250 m to 450 m, the estate culminating at 650 m on a rocky section planted with oaks.
A balance has been established between new and old constructions (old bastide with millennial foundations) and new plantations: vineyards, herbs of Provence, field crops and meadows, the whole being decorated with old olive trees along the accesses and along the roadsides.
Mongestine, the name of the place taken up by the Domaine, comes from the word "Monge" meaning "Monk" in Provençal and Occitan. The land has been inhabited and worked for a long time and it is not uncommon when turning the soils to find some millennial remains, fragments of pottery, stone tools... We could only be tempted by the bet, by continuing this reconstruction started a little more than fifteen years ago.
The location of the estate, hillsides in foothills, has generated clay-limestone soils on the bottom, very stony at the foot of the hill: a diversity that ensures a strong terroir effect.
The Domaine spreads its terroir east of the PDO Coteaux d'Aix en Provence, on the edge of the Verdon country and faces the windy corridor of the Luberons, in semi-altitude.
Nearly 36 ha of vines were planted, mainly in PDO Coteaux d'Aix, the rest in grape varieties in country wine under the wine name of Pays des Coteaux du Verdon.
We have been certified "organic" since August 2014. This aspect is essential to the biological balance of the places, located in the heart of a protected natural area.
Made by plot and grape variety, from native yeasts, on maturities very spread over time. Ageing on lees, barrels, amphorae or concrete eggs according to the cuvées.
