Notes from the Winery/Importer
Les Greilles is an elegant white wine crafted from a blend of local Gaillac varieties—Mauzac and Loin-de-l’Oeil—enhanced by a touch of old-vine Muscadelle. It’s a wine we may not praise often enough, though it certainly deserves it.
This is a remarkably complex wine, full of subtle nuances that make it an exceptionally versatile pairing for food.
It shines as an aperitif, yet it also complements a broad spectrum of dishes—from charcuterie and cured meats to vibrant, spicy cuisines from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Sri Lanka.
The fruit is sourced from several low-yielding plots in their breathtaking vineyards, with yields capped at just 35 hectolitres per hectare. This low yield results in exceptional fruit concentration, clearly expressed in the wine’s depth and character.
Patrice, the passionate winemaker behind this cuvée, works with traditional varieties native to this beautiful terroir to produce wines of outstanding charm and flavor.
Notes on the Producer
Causse Marines is a beacon in Gaillac whether the cuvée respects the AOP rules or not. Patrice Lescarret, who took over the domaine in 1992, was ahead of his time, but if he has inspired numerous young winemakers in the so-called ‘natural’ movement, his free spirit refuses to belong to any category. The domaine itself is a biodynamically farmed patchwork of (mostly self grafted) local varieties like Duras, Braucol, Mauzac, Loin de l’Oeil, Prunelard, Syrah, Mauzac rose … The wines are remarkable as they show uniqueness, extreme sense of place and at the same time fantastic craftsmanship and clarity.
