A unique wine from an obscure grey skinned grape, originally from the Jura. The grapes are the only planting in CA, from a 40 year old vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Fermented with native yeast on the skins for five days to extract color, flavor and texture, then aged in neutral barrels for 8 months. Similar to the 2017 thru 2020 releases, this vintage is destemmed, allowing a fresh and vibrant expression. 425 cases crafted.12.5% alc

Still the “insane master of small lots” In the beginning, we specialized in Rhone varieties.

Then, fun grapes like Trousseau Gris and Pinot Meunier popped up, and we couldn’t say no. We’re like kids in a candy store.

What remains the same since day 1:
Native yeast, no additions other than minimal S02, neutral barrel fermentation and aging, whole cluster, and unfined, unfiltered production. Cool climate, organic or old vine vineyards from small family vineyards.

Production has grown from 175 cases in 2010, to 5,000 cases, still all 25-400 case small lots.

Hence William’s nickname “insane master of small lots.”

We are honored to work with some of the unsung heroes of California wine; growers that still specialize in unique varieties.
Two Shepherds, like many other small wineries, essentially ‘lease’ parts of vineyards. Often under long term contract, rows or blocks of the vineyard are farmed to our specifications for leaf pulling, fruit removal, irrigation, and more. Were it not for this unique arrangement, almost unheard of in Europe, Two Shepherds could never bring you these special wines.
We are pleased to work with these growers for many years and lease specific rows so we can learn and appreciate the nuances of each harvest. We source from organic, family-owned vineyards.
