Notes from the Winery/Importer

On the nose, it shows fragrant notes of raspberry, red currant, and violet. The palate is agile, with a freshness that invites the next sip. Fine tannins gently caress the mouth, while a savory and slightly balsamic finish leaves a pleasant persistence. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for several months, followed by further refinement in bottle, which completes its evolution, giving it balance and depth.

Notes on the Producer

Bastiàn Cuntràri was born from the passion and determination of Michele and Patrik, two young men who left their permanent jobs to pursue their dream of becoming vignerons. Starting from scratch, they began by cultivating vineyards and selling the grapes in order to raise the funds needed to purchase winemaking equipment. The name of the estate perfectly reflects their eccentric and unconventional nature—a unique winery that stands out in Valtellina for its distinctive approach.

The vineyards of Bastiàn Cuntràri are located in the renowned subzones of the Valtellina Superiore appellation—Sassella, Grumello, and Inferno—but the winemaking takes place on the opposite side of the valley, in the Orobic territory of Albosaggia. The cellar, housed in a building from the early 1900s, is divided into three sections: one dedicated to vinification, one for aging, and a tasting room with a panoramic terrace that offers an unusual view of the surrounding terraced vineyards.

Michele and Patrik are deeply committed to nature and sustainability, and for this reason, they adopt environmentally friendly agricultural practices. They regularly mow the vineyards to avoid the use of herbicides, install pheromones to deter insects without resorting to pesticides, and fertilize the soil with organic substances, thus ensuring a natural and respectful production cycle in harmony with the land.
