Notes on the Producer

In the picturesque region of Monferrato, Piemonte, lies Cascina Gasparda, a 6-hectare farm situated at the crossroads of Asti, Alessandria, and Casale Monferrato. Embracing organic viticulture, they uphold the tradition of manual harvesting, ensuring a respectful and hands-on approach to winemaking. At the helm of this esteemed estate is Pietro Salvaneschi, who has diligently cared for the vineyards for several years. His parents, still actively involved, were the custodians before him, passing down their deep-rooted knowledge and passion. The vineyards boast a diverse array of native grape varieties, an authentic reflection of the region's viticultural heritage. Among these are the esteemed Grignolino, Freisa, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Cortese. The vines span a range of ages, from youthful recent plantings to venerable vines over 70 years old, lending character and complexity to the wines. Vinification follows a traditional path, allowing the wines to express their unique personality. Spontaneous fermentation, devoid of temperature control, kicks off the transformation. Subsequently, the wines rest in cement vats or seasoned wooden barrels, undergoing a self-clarification process over one or two winters, contingent upon the grape variety. Bottling transpires without filtration, preserving the wines' pure essence. Each bottle, notably those that have been gracefully aged (Barbera, Grignolino, and Freisa), exudes power and vitality. They strike a remarkable balance between precision and elegance, embracing a serious demeanor without compromising their approachable and enjoyable nature. Cascina Gasparda's wines embody the heart and soul of Monferrato, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship that goes into every bottle. -The Grape Reset
