Notes from the Winery/Importer
Varietal: Chardonnay This is the type of Chardonnay designed to convert the “anything but Chardonnay” folks. It’s unoaked with fleshy, salty, limestone-forward tasting notes. Think: Clean, floral, and rocky, with a bit of custard cream on the nose.
Famille du vin is a collaboration between Paloma Brey, a French-raised, New York-bred cultural creator and community builder and Zev Rovine, a long-standing natural wine importer with a portfolio of wines from all over the world.
Both are driven by their commitment to sustainable farming practices, biodynamics, and the artisanship that comes with making great wine — which is why they’re just as focused on finding new, more conscious and accessible ways to distribute, as they are on ensuring that they’re never sacrificing on flavor, or quality. Long story long, this is great wine, first and foremost. But yes, it happens to be in a can.
Everywhere wine.
Stationed in Burgundy — the heart of Chablis wine country — Château de Béru has been helmed by the Béru family for 400 years. And while the wines have long been highly regarded, they reached new (well-deserved) acclaim when Athénaïs, the family’s youngest daughter, took the reins in 2004. As a staunch advocate for female winemakers, sustainable farming, and, well, extremely good wine, she’s become something of a Burgundy icon — and over the course of the last decade, her bottles have only grown tastier and more sought-after.
WHY CANS
Aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable in a closed-loop system without a loss in quality.
Aluminum cans have a recycling rate of 74%, making them the most recyclable drinks packaging on earth.
75% of aluminum produced is still in productive use today.
Aluminum is the third most abundant element in the Earth's crust, and its recycling efficiency contributes to resource conservation.
- Aluminum cans not only have high economic value but also contribute to a more sustainable waste management system. The recyclability of aluminum helps in minimizing landfill usage, reducing the environmental impact associated with traditional waste disposal methods.
- The lightweight nature of aluminum cans reduces transportation-related carbon emissions.
- Transitioning from glass bottles to aluminum cans yields a remarkable 79% reduction in CO2 emissions.
- Over 50% of the climate impact from wine arises from packaging and transport, making cans a greener alternative.
- Recycling aluminum requires only about 5% of the energy needed for primary production.
- Recycling a can uses 90% less energy than recycling a glass bottle
Notes on the Producer
Château de Béru is a family-owned wine domain of around fifteen hectares, located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Chablis vineyards. Biodynamic viticulture and a low-intervention approach give the domain's wines a particular sense of their original terroirs and of the ever-changing character of the vintages. THE WINES Our wines are the reflection of an artisan approach that determines all our practices, from sorting grapes on the plot to the bottling. Whether it is for the Chablis wines produced at the domain, or for our négoce wines, we strive to analyze and understand each vintage, so that our wines render their most accurate expressions. THE VINES Located in the heart of the Chablis vineyards, our vines are planted around a hill, dominated by the Château de Béru. Thanks to biodynamic viticulture, each of our plots has reached its own balance, and expresses the peculiarities of its terroir, from vintage to vintage.
