Notes from the Winery/Importer
A Rosato Unlike Any Other Born from the same celebrated hillsides as our Barolo, this rosato is a rarer expression — one that only Nebbiolo can give. Pale and luminous in the glass, its translucent peach-pink hue hints at the delicacy within: a wine of floral lift, cool minerality, and the kind of quiet precision that is almost unheard of in Italian rosato. The blend is led by Nebbiolo — roughly 85% — drawn from organically farmed estate parcels across Barolo, La Morra, Novello, and Serralunga d'Alba, with vines sitting at 350 to 400 metres above sea level. Barbera and Dolcetto round out the blend, each adding a whisper of texture and fruit. To preserve their natural brightness, grapes are harvested in early-to-mid September, weeks ahead of our red wine harvest, when the vines still hold their crispness and aromatic energy. In the cellar, we treat this wine with the same care and intention as everything we make. The Nebbiolo is handled by saignée, while the Barbera and Dolcetto undergo brief skin contact before a gentle press. Fermentation takes place slowly in cool stainless steel, with no malolactic conversion — keeping the acidity vivid and the character fresh. A short rest on the lees adds just enough texture, and the wine is bottled in January to capture all of that early-season vitality. The result is a wine for the moment: alive, precise, and entirely itself.
Notes on the Producer
The estate of GD Vajra is situated in Vergne, the highest village in the Commune of Barolo. Its vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera at heights of 350-400 meters, which result in distinctive and aromatic wines. The Vajra family is a group of dedicated, passionate winegrowers, who are also grounded and sensitive to the human role in winemaking. Their philosophy remains faithful to the traditional and authentic wines of Piemonte, and in essence they regard themselves as the instruments that enable nature and the environment full self-expression through their wines.
