Request a Case OrderGrüner Veltliner, 2023, dry Austrian organic wine from Loidesthal, Weinviertel The grapes for this wine are grown in the small romantic winegrower village Blumenthal. On the hills, which lead into the valley, the vineyards grow on deep, fertile loess soils with perfect solar radiation. This guarantees perfect ripe Grüner Veltliner grapes, which we harvest late in autumn to get a powerful typical Loess Veltliner. In this wine you can taste a hint of exotic nuances compared with the Austrian spiciness and freshness. On the palate you find a creamy texture, apple and pears aromas and on the finish the creamy loess minerality. Varieties: Grüner Veltliner Block(s): in the village Blumenthal Soil: loess, sandstone Ripe and healthy grapes were harvested in the middle of October. After crushing the grapes, they had skin contact for a few hours to extract flavor from the skins. After gentle pressing, the juice went through fermentation in stainless steel tank with natural yeast at a temperature with 18°to 20°C. After fine lees contact the wine went to bottle in middle of March.

THE SCHÖDL FAMILY originally built their farm at the end of World War II as a mixed agriculture and wine operation, it was then transformed into a vineyard and winemaking focused operation in the 1980’s by Hubert Schödl, a winemaking professor. Since 2012 the winery has been run by his children Matthias, Leonhard and Viktoria. Nestled between Vienna and the Czech Republic the Weinviertel region is influenced by the Danube and March rivers and a Pannonian climate of hot, dry summers and dry, cold winters. The resulting grapes reach full ripeness and maintain refreshing acidity. True cool climate wines. The Schödl’s focus on several unique expressions of Grüner Veltliner and St. Laurent. Chardonnay, Weisser Burgunder and Pinot Noir are also grown for the production of world class sparkling wines. In and around the village of Loidesthal the Schödl’s 15 ha of vineyards are all farmed organically. -Barrel Down Selections
